Connecticut Contemporary features Connecticut artists who are making an indelible mark on the art world. From minimalism to realism, from oils to digital prints, see works that really push the boundaries of artistic expression. Showing now through August 12th.
The Wadsworth Atheneum's engagement with contemporary art is as old and as venerable as the institution itself. From the time of its opening in 1844, the museum has supported the work of emerging artists, and since then has become an integral component of the Atheneum's identity and collections. For this exhibition, the Wadsworth Atheneum invited eight Connecticut artists-Rachel Berwick, Ellen Carey, Barkley Hendricks, Eva Lee, Sol LeWitt, Jessica Stockholder, Peter Waite, and Pawel Wojtasik-to participate and for each to select another Connecticut artist for the exhibition, who in turn selected another, resulting in a group of 24. The exhibition reflects the vibrancy and diversity of talent in the state.
