Wadsworth Atheneum Web Site Privacy Policy
The Wadsworth Atheneum (the "Atheneum") is strongly committed to protecting the privacy of its online guests, customers, Members, donors, and friends. We do not collect personally identifiable information about individuals—such as their names and postal and/or email addresses—except when it is knowingly provided by such individuals. In choosing to provide any such information or by using the Atheneum's Web site, or communicating with the Atheneum by email, you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions of the Atheneum’s Privacy Policy (the "Privacy Policy"). The Privacy Policy is outlined below.
Privacy Policy For Online and Electronic Use We believe that maintaining privacy on the Web is very important and we hope you will read this Privacy Policy carefully so that you will clearly understand both our commitment to you and your privacy and our method of collecting and using information. This Privacy Policy only applies to transactions made, and data gathered, on the Atheneum Web site located at www.wadsworthatheneum.org (the "Site") and does not apply to any other Web site. The terms of this Privacy Policy governs all interactions with the Atheneum through either the Site or email. Information Provided by Visitors You may use the Site without registering or submitting any personally identifiable information. However, in order to have access to certain features, such as online purchases from the Atheneum store, becoming a member online (a "Membership"), donating online to the Atheneum (a "Donation") or signing up to receive the Atheneum's email newsletters, you must knowingly provided certain personal information ("Personal Information"). If you choose to provide Personal Information to us online, you will be asked to provide personally identifiable information that may include your name, email address, postal address, telephone number, and your Membership status (your "Profile").
We store your Profile, along with your other preferences, on our secured server so that you need not reenter it when you return to the site. If you select the "Remember My Login" feature when registering, the site will display your information on the order form in Check Out when you shop in the Wadsworth Store, purchase or renew a Membership, make a Donation, or purchase tickets to a benefit event.
Online Purchases When you order a product online from the Atheneum Store, we need to know your name, billing and shipping addresses, telephone number, and credit card information to process your order. This is the same information requested when you place an order by telephone or through the mail. Also, for online orders or when you request a catalogue online, we require your email address so you can receive order and shipping confirmation emails and so we can communicate with you if we have difficulty processing your order or catalogue request. Your credit card information will be used only as needed to process your transaction. So that we can track your order, we will retain your order information for our records.
Online Memberships When you purchase a Membership online, we will ask you to provide us with the information we need to process your membership and to acknowledge your contribution. This information includes your name, billing and shipping addresses, telephone number, e-mail address, and credit card information. Your credit card information will be used only as needed to process your transaction.
Online Donations When you support the Atheneum by making a Donation online, we will ask you to provide us with the information we need to process and acknowledge your contribution. This information includes your name, billing and mailing addresses, telephone number, e-mail address, and credit card information. Your credit card information will be used only as needed to process your transaction.
Children Twelve and Under Wadsworth Atheneum does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under thirteen years of age. Visitors twelve years of age and under should remember that they are required to obtain an adult's permission before submitting any Personal Information to this Site or any other Web site.
E-Newsletter As a service, the Atheneum offers visitors to its Site the opportunity to subscribe to our online newsletter. If you choose to subscribe, you will receive the Atheneum newsletter from time to time. You may subscribe or unsubscribe at any time by following the instructions on the Site.

The Atheneum may release Personal Information when such release is reasonably necessary to comply with the law; enforce the terms of any of our user agreements; or protect the rights, property, and safety of the Atheneum, the users of the Site, or others.
We may notify you by e-mail about events or activities at or related to the Atheneum that we believe may be of interest to you, or to alert you about sales or other promotional events at the Atheneum store. Emailing the Atheneum The Atheneum tries to respond to email messages requiring a response within five (5) business days. We try to respond to customer service inquiries related to a purchase in the Atheneum store within twenty four (24) hours. If you email the Atheneum, your message and email address will be forwarded to the appropriate department within the Atheneum. The Atheneum may choose to save this information. The Atheneum is pleased to hear from you. However, any message, material, business information, ideas, concepts, or other information sent to the Atheneum by email will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary.
Data Security The Atheneum makes every reasonable effort to ensure that all of the transactions that occur on our Site are secure. The Atheneum’s Site may contain links to other Web sites such as our third-party vendors. Once you leave the Site, this Privacy Policy will not apply.
