Be a docent. Get a free graduate-level education.
Docents are volunteer museum educators. Sign on, and you'll get the art education you always dreamed of, for free. From cave art to performance art, you'll learn it all. And, from the best in the business, including the Wadsworth Atheneum's Director and curators, guest scholars, and even artists themselves. Once trained, you'll conduct tours and awaken the understanding and interest of tour groups, school children, and the public. This a very special opportunity to turn an appreciation for art into a fine education. Are you up to it? We invite you to volunteer.

Purpose: Help visitors of all ages explore, enjoy and understand the world of art.

Responsibilities: Conduct museum tours.

Qualifications: Any Wadsworth Atheneum member who loves to work with people and has an enthusiasm for art is a welcome candidate. People from diverse backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. The time commitment for training and touring is extensive. However, a part-time program is available.

Perks: In-depth, ongoing training led by curators, scholars, and museum education specialists, plus Free preview of special exhibitions.

For more information: To set up an interview, please contact Charlene Shang Miller, Associate Museum Educator for Docent and University Programs
