Host Your Corporate Event at the Museum
Let the Wadsworth Atheneum's grand Beaux-Arts and classic modern galleries form the backdrop for your next corporate or organization dinner party, cocktail reception, seminar or meeting. With masterpieces of European and American art gracing the walls, set within an historically and architecturally significant building, your guests will experience an event to be remembered. What's more, the museum's downtown location provides a central gathering place with multiple spaces to suit a wide-variety of business needs.

Depending on your entertaining style and space requirements, the museum's two primary spaces each offer a different ambience for your guests.

Avery Court
Built in 1934, International Style Avery Court features a spectacular skylight with a working centerpiece Venus fountain created in 1600 by French artist, Pietro Francavilla, who worked in Italy. Showcasing the museum's permanent collection of 20th century modern art, this gallery accomodates up to 220 for a seated dinner and 350 for a standing reception. An adjoining lobby and street access provide a convenient entry point for guests.

Morgan Great Hall
Built in 1910-1915, elegant Morgan Great Hall offers a breathtaking view of large European and American paintings hung salon style. With majestic 50-foot high vaulted ceilings and a lovely second-story balcony, the Great Hall seats up to 120 for dinner and allows 200 for a reception. This space also features a marble pilared entry way with a Tiffany-style stained glass ceiling, double grand staircases, and spectacular contemporary wall drawings by Connecticut artist Sol LeWitt.

The Hartford Courant Room
For more intimate gatherings, the Hartford Courant Room provides the perfect location for business breakfasts, luncheons, meetings, presentations, lectures, and small dinner parties. Capacity for a seated meal, lecture, or standing reception is 50.

The Museum Cafe
The Museum Cafe also serves smaller business groups for breakfast meetings, evening cocktail receptions and dinner events. This space can be used in conjunction with the adjoining outdoor Gengras Court during the warmer months. Capacity is 60 for a seated meal and 75 for a standing reception.

Aetna Theater
For formal presentations requiring more extensive audio visual capabilities, Aetna Theater is fully equipped with a stage and audio visual equipment. Floor-to-ceiling lyrical neo-Romantic murals line the walls of the classic Art Deco theater, originally opened in 1934. The theater holds up to 284 guests and has an adjoining lobby for small pre or post event receptions.

Preferred Caterers
With five preferred caterers to choose from, you're sure to find one to your liking. They include Ann Howard at the Bond, Jordan Caterers, Max Catering, and Tallulah's. Each provides food, beverage, and rental service. In-house dining tables and chairs are included in the rental price.

Docent-Guided Tours
Take full advantage of the museum experience with an informative and entertaining half hour tour. Upon request, the museum will provide one or more trained docents to lead your guests on a tour of a special exhibition or through one of the many galleries displaying the museum's distinguished permanent collection. The museum is home to an outstanding collection of European works by artists like Caravaggio, Fra Angelico, Dali, Renoir, and Picasso, and to a comprehensive assembly of American art from colonial to Hudson River School to contemporary.

Certificate of Insurance
All clients are required to provide the museum with a certificate of general public liability insurance with a minimum limit of $1,000,000.

Note that the museum no longer serves as a venue for weddings or private parties except for those constituents in the museum's top tier donor categories.
