Free admission, tours and programming all day long! Come celebrate with a fun-filled Free Day at the Wadsworth Atheneum, with: Family-friendly tours for all ages, gallery treasure hunts with the Art Smart Cards and hands-on activities with the Family ArtPacks, current exhibition tours, verbal imaging tours for the blind and partially sighted, and more.


Saturday Morning Art Explorers


Children and their adult companions explore art together in this fun, interactive program. A guided looking experience in the museum’s galleries is followed by a hands-on art-making project in the art studio. Recommended for children ages 6 – 10.

Child and adult: $20; Members: $15; $5 each additional child or adult.

Funky Faces

10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Explore the way in which 20th century European artists portray the human form. Then, return to the studio to create a self-portrait mask done after the colorful, expressionistic style of the works you have seen in the gallery.

Children, ages 3 - 6 (accompanied by an adult), are invited to a delightful morning of reading and adventure in the galleries, exploring the collection through the creative window of stories, myths, and tall tales. Discovery Days, School Vacation Week


Make your family’s week off from school a week of creative expression and artful fun! Join museum teachers for a morning or afternoon of gallery explorations, interactive games, and art projects. Each day brings a new “discovery” and the program is repeated in the afternoon. No registration required. Please plan for at least one adult with every three children for the duration of the program.
