This five session class focuses on drawing clothing, drapery, and fabric. Using the permanent collections and two special exhibitions, The Ballets Russes: Celebrating the Centennial, and Foreign Accents: The Ballets Russes and Western Couture, this class offers technical instruction to achieve weight, texture, and volume as observed in painting, sculpture, and costume.
This class is open to all levels of ability. A list of required dry drawing materials will be sent to participants. Class enrollment is limited. Call early!
About Patrick Earl Hammie:
Painter and Draftsman Patrick Earl Hammie holds an MFA from the University of Connecticut and a BA from Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina. In 2008 he became the inaugural recipient of the Alice C. Cole Class of 1942 Studio Fellowship from Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA. He has exhibited widely in venues that include H Street Playhouse in Washington, D.C., Nave Gallery in Somerville, MA, Coker College in Hartsville, SC, Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN, Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, CT, University of Connecticut in Storrs, Cazenovia College, Cazenovia, NY, Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA, Slater Memorial Museum of Art in Norwich, CT, William Benton Museum of Art in Storrs, CT Dakshina Chitra Gallery, Chennai, India, Ruchika 's Art Gallery, Panjim, Goa, India, Times Square Gallery/Hunter College and Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts in New York City. Hammie has instructed Open Drawing classes at the William Benton Museum of Fine Art, and currently teaches at the University of Connecticut in Storrs and Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic.

The Art in Fine Art & Flowers
All tours are free with museum admission. Meet at the information desk in the Helen and Harry Gray Court, at the Main Street Entrance.
This year’s theme, "Painting with Plants," shows great works of art in new ways. Imaginative floral arrangements interpret paintings and sculptures from the museum’s collections. Garden designs will complement the museum’s historic spaces. The Boutique will present artisans and their unique creations for a special shopping experience.
Lynden Miller will speak on using flowers as her palette to beautify the urban landscape at the annual Lecture & Luncheon on Friday, April 24. Director of the Conservatory Garden in Central Park, Mrs. Miller has designed many public gardens and parks in New York City, including the New York Botanical garden and Bryant Park. As a painter and garden designer, Mrs. Miller brings an artistic perspective to garden design. Her thoughts on beautifying a city with flowers and plants for all seasons will be most welcome in Greater Hartford. The event will also include an elegant luncheon in Avery Court.
